Rise to Remain Review

Penrith Leisure Centre Friday 18th March 2011

Freshly signed to the major record label EMI and supporting one of the UK's top bands Funeral for a Friend, Rise to Remain are in Penrith to make an impact. With the band being praised and spoke of highly within the metal scene by fans and critics alike tonight they have the task of proving to the Penrith crowd that they can live up to the hype.

Tonight's gig is not in the most traditional of live gig settings, at only a 500 capacity venue and set in a Leisure Centre with parents and young children walking  amongst the gig goers it is strange to see.  As the first support band Tiger Please leave the stage more people make their way into the hall to witness Rise to Remain.

It is obvious from their live set that the band are naturally talented from Austin Dickinson's soaring vocals to lead guitarist Ben Tovey's guitar solos and Pat Lundy's pounding drums, Rise to Remain are an awesome live band.

Playing through most of their songs off their latest ‘Bridges Will Burn' EP, ‘Purify', ‘Illusive Existence', ‘Salvation' and ‘Nothing Left' go down well with the crowd.

It is of course the bands final and most memorable and stand out song of their set ‘Bridges Will Burn‘ which sets the crowd off going crazy. The mixture of fast drums coupled with the catchiest guitar riffs and melodic vocals are what make this song stand out tonight. Only deciding to play one new song off their as yet untitled full length album it surprisingly goes down a storm and certainly leaves the crowd wanting more.

You can see from frontman Austin that his dad (Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden) stage presence has rubbed off on him, jumping around on stage and whipping the Penrith crowd into a frenzy with ease it shows that he has alot of confidence on stage.

What you hear from Rise to Remain on their EP's is exactly what you get live, fast ferocious yet melodic at the same time Rise to Remain have truly perfected their sound. At times the band sound alot like Trivium,Shadows Fall and The Haunted all of which Rise to Remain have toured with on past tours of the UK.

Tonight's gig, in fact the whole tour is an all British affair with Rise to Remain from London and Tiger Please and Funeral for a Friend from Wales the lineup is a perfect mix. Showcasing the best of British music, Rise to Remain from the metal scene, the emotive rock from Tiger Please and the melodic post-hardcore from Funeral for a Friend.

Rise to Remain do stand out tonight with a flawless set running through some of their fastest and heaviest songs. With their full length album set to be released towards the end of the year, Rise to Remain is a definite band to look out for in the future.
