In 1708, a Royal Act established The Town and Harbour of Whitehaven.
The Whitehaven Festival Company has organized a whole bunch of activities to mark this special occasion.
The Celebrations start on 5 June when Whitehaven celebrates its Historical Association and friendship with The Us Navy, which will be attended by H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth 11 and H.R.H The Duke of Edinburgh.
Also on the day their will be Street Theatre, Stilt Walkers and the possibility of an Air show plus The Tall Ship Zebu will be docked in the harbour for all to see and will be acting as the Town flagship for the day.
The Whitehaven Festival Company have also organized The Continental Market to return to The Harbour side on the 19th-20th and 21st June.
The Continental Market is always a winner with such an array of Foods that we don't normally see. Stallholders from all across Europe will tempt our taste buds with the colourful bounty on offer.
In between the Continental Market visit, The Whitehaven Festival Company will be inviting Young and Old alike to The Harbour Side for The Opening of ‘The Gift' on the 20th June.
The Huge Container, which was delivered onto The Harbourside last Year in a convoy of Trucks from Eddie Stobarts, will be opened whereby The Company will be presenting The Town of Whitehaven with the mystery gift...
On the 21st June The Loyal Company of Town Criers have been invited by the International Whitehaven Maritime Festival organization to compete in The Whitehaven Championship Trophy.
As host town, Whitehaven's Town Crier will be acting as Master of Ceremonies for the competition, which takes place on the 21st June around the Hub, Whitehaven Harbour.
Town Criers will be coming from far afield as - Lincoln, Bristol, Hertfordshire, Warwickshire, Stoke, Stafford, Derbyshire and Shropshire.
In addition to best Town Crier, there are prizes for best dressed Crier - and it should be noted that many come complete with costumed partners to assist in their quest - so the event is guaranteed to be colourful even if a little noisy at times!
Overall, the competition promises to be colourful, entertaining, educational and good family fun - all free! It should also provide some great photographic opportunities for all.
The Event starts at 10am where the Town Criers will depart from St Nicholas Gardens and they will make their way to the harbourside. The competition will carry on throughout the day finishing off with a firework display courtesy of The Whitehaven Festival Company.
The Annual Whitehaven Carnival looks set to be even bigger and better this year.
The Carnival which is organized by The Lions will Take place on the 5th July.
And finally to Mark the 300 year celebrations in style The Whitehaven Festival Company have organized The Status Quo Gig, ‘For one Night Only' Live at Whitehaven Rugby Leagues Recreation Ground, on the 2nd August. The Mains Sponsor for this brilliant event is (Nuclear Management Partners) who consist of ‘Washington Group- Amec & Areva'
Already Thousands of Tickets have gone for this one-off event, which will see one of the biggest selling bands of all time play to thousands right here in Whitehaven.
One Night with The Quo will be the first outdoor Rock Concert ever held in Whitehaven and is on course to be one of the biggest ever held in the County.
