GET ON YER BIKE FOR COUNTY SHOW
IT hasn't happened this year yet but already there are aims to make the Cumbria Bike Show a two-day annual event by next year.

It is to last just one day this year and takes place at Hutton-in-the-Forest, which lies between Wigton and Penrith on the north-eastern edge of the Lake District, on Sunday September 18.
It aims to become an annual event, and there are hopes to do a weekend event with camping, in 2012.
Proceeds from the show are going to support the region's Air Ambulance Services, the Great North Air Ambulance and the North West Air Ambulance Service.
There is much planned for the day from demonstrations, stunt riders, speed challenges, fun for the kids, fun for the family and a great day out for bikers from the region.
Organiser Martin Ashfield, said: "I am keen to include all aspects of bikes from classic / vintage, through to custom, racing, moto-cross and speedway. This is all-things bike and promoting all the different clubs and associations from the region."
On the day both the Great North A and North West Air Ambulance service are organising sponsored bike runs staring from a number of locations across the North, from Preston to Carlisle and Whitehaven to Scotch Corner with everyone ending up at the showground.
It is hoped that bikers from all over the North will hit the roads and take part to help raise money for air services.
Riders who sign up for the Bike Run can choose from starting points at: Preston, Lancaster, Kendal, Kendal, Barrow, Millom, Whitehaven, Workington, Maryport, Carlisle and Scotch Corner.
Setting off around 8.30am - 9am from your chosen start point you should arrive at the show nice and early so that you won't miss out on any of the events of the day. Registration to take part in the Sponsored Bike Run is £7.50 and on arrival at the showground, if you present your sponsorship form and sponsor money at the entrance, you (the rider) will get free entrance to the show.
You can register for the run on the website: www.cumbriabikeshow.co.uk and having done so you will be sent an information pack letting you know your start point, start time, your route, and most important of all you will receive your sponsorship form.
Two more features of the event are a moto-gymkhana and a figure of eight challenge in which you can take part... see the website for full details.
There will be Freestyle Moto-X demonstrations, quad bikes for the kids, classic and modern autojumble, trade stands, a funfair and a charity auction.

Dozy drivers Worry

IT may only takes seconds of sleep behind the wheel to cause a fatal crash, but recent research by safety group Brake reveals that one in eight drivers has ‘head-Head-nodding occurs when someone nods off to between two and 30 seconds, often without realising that they have been asleep
The survey of 1,000 drivers also revealed risky behaviour among many that can contribute to tiredness, with one in four admitting embarking on a journey when they already felt drowsy. The vast majority (86%) are also failing to follow best practice advice on dealing with tiredness at the wheel, by stopping somewhere safe for a nap. More than a quarter (29%) put their own and others' lives on the line by continuing their journey after they notice the first signs of drowsiness.' at the wheel in the past year.
